Revolution in local transport: Faster connection to BER Airport from December!

Flughafen Berlin-Brandenburg, Deutschland - The connection of the new Berlin-Brandenburg (BER) airport to the capital and the surrounding area will be significantly improved from December 14, 2025. The timetable change brings a variety of innovations that are of great interest to travelers from home and abroad. Particularly noteworthy is the commissioning of the Dresden railway, which includes a 16-kilometer new line between Berlin-Südkreuz and Blankenfelde. This expansion of the rail network closes a crucial gap in public transport and enables a reduced travel time for many travelers.

Thanks to the new FEX airport express line, the connections between Berlin Hbf and BER are optimized. In the future, FEX will drive every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes as before. The travel time is reduced from 39 to just 23 minutes. In addition, travelers from Potsdamer Platz can reach the airport in around 19 minutes and from Südkreuz in just 14 minutes. This makes the entire region, including cities such as Lübbenau, Eberswalde and Oranienburg, better connected to the capital.

direct connections for even more comfort

In addition to the improvements in long-distance trains, there will also be new direct connections in the S-Bahn network. For example, travelers from Frohnau or Pankow via Ostkreuz go directly to the airport. The S-Bahn lines S9 and S85 still offer six connections per hour, while the S47 to Südkreuz is extended. In the future there will also be an express bus for the arrival from Berlin southwest that commutes from the Rudow underground station.

The importance of these developments should not be underestimated: especially for tourists from Switzerland who use the airport during the ITB Berlin, the world's largest tourism fair, the BER becomes an important goal to the city, which significantly makes access to the most varied attractions. This travel time savings offer both exhibitors and visitors a corresponding advantage.

The future of local transport in Berlin

In addition, the reconstruction of the Dresden Bahn is a future -oriented infrastructure project. With the completion, which is expected for 2025/2026, a direct connection to the city center of Berlin is established. This is not only useful for the passengers of BER, but also relieves the Berlin railway node as a whole. The shorter and denser bars open up new opportunities for travelers through access to an improved transport network that also takes into account regional traffic.

All in all, the connection of the airport to the city and the surrounding area will not only increase the attractiveness of BER, but also make it easier for guests to travel to Berlin. With these new connections, nothing stands in the way of an unforgettable stay in the German capital.
